Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world – John Milton
A few stories (and recipes!) from Camp…..shared by members of The WCC….
From a Lady on sabbatical in Alderson, West Virginia (April 2016)
My tiramisu concoction actually tastes like tiramisu! I pierce holes with a fork in the regular Twinkies (I believe this is called docking~pretty impressive I know this term, right?!) and lightly soak them in a strong coffee mixture. The sponge cake absorbs the coffee very quickly, much faster than traditional lady fingers, so a quick soak is all that is required. I then layer a cheesecake filling, made from vanilla pudding, cream cheese, Fluff, creamer and lemon. The next layer consists of chocolate Twinkies, which I halved. Then another layer of the cheesecake filling follows. Lastly, I fine chop a bar of Almond Snickers and sprinkle them on top, followed by a trickle of chocolate syrup. After chilling it for a few hours, it mimics the flavors of an actual tiramisu!
From a Lady sojourner (May 2016)
Ever wonder what to do with those annoying perfume samples clogging up your magazines? Well today I pulled the fragrance strip from my Vogue subscription and stirred it into a bottle of fragrance free lotion from Commissary and, voila!, I now have a bottle of perfumed lotion! Necessity is the mother of invention….
Another recipe, this time for Calzones, from a Fraternal Felon (August 2016)
The calzones turned out really well! I first sautéed beef sausage with veggies and spices (all available in Fed Mart). I then took a tortilla wrap and spread spaghetti sauce, which I had seasoned. I scooped some of the sauce mixture on top of the spaghetti sauce, laid some pepperoni, and topped it off with mozzarella. I took another tortilla wrap and crimped the edges. Finally, I coated the top tortilla with olive oil and sprinkled Italian seasoning and grated cheese. It was a hit!!
