Not your Father’s Khakis
Khaki pants are a wardrobe staple for WCCs, whether associated with casual office attire or Summers on the Cape. From a young age WCCs are exposed to khaki, beginning when their Mother dressed them in their first uniform for school to when their Father returned from a long day on the golf course in his best Greg Norman.
At Club Fed, Khaki pants are worn for “formal” functions (Dining, Working, Classes). Upon arrival you will be outfitted with several sets of very durable pants and, in an effort to take the stress out of dressing, matching khaki shirts. The clothing provided is a cotton/polyester blend, with an emphasis on poly.
Think Dickie’s, as Vineyard Vines and Bill’s Khakis have not made it to Club Fed.
If this sounds vaguely familiar to you, it’s because it is almost identical to the outfits provided to military recruits. Remember, Club Fed is government run, so Uncle Sam uses the same manufacturers whether for the Military or for The White Collar Club.
To complete the “formal” look you will also receive a pair of black dress shoes and multiple pairs of white tube socks (think 1970’s Larry Bird versus present day Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of appearance).
Fear not, there are plenty of casual attire options. You will also receive Cotton t-shirts in shades ranging from mahogany brown (new) to creamy mocha (used).
Given that WCCs are housed in Camps of the most minimal Security and Supervision there is no orange to be found. This is saved for those on a longer leave of a more serious nature. This comes as a great relief to WCCs as they can continue to associate their favorite French leather brand with this color versus their Club Fed experience.
You will notice that I haven’t spent much time on undergarments as what is there really to say? Your Hanro and La Perla will have to stay neatly folded in your walk-in closet. Forget cleavage, Ladies will strut a uniboob in a jog bra and Men will stay secure in their tightie whities.
While you will receive your essentials, courtesy of all of the hard working US taxpayers, you can supplement your wardrobe with purchases from Fed Mart (more on this later).
How you choose to style your new label and pattern free wardrobe is up to you. You might find that as you partake in the various sporting activities that you would like to highlight your newly taut waist or defined arms. There are a variety of ways to personalize your monotone look. Channel your inner personal stylist or refer to some of the drawings provided (to be posted at a later date).
