May 2020 Updates and Book Donations
You will notice a new “look” to the website this month. The original concept (a placeholder for blog posts to be published into a book) remains under the header BLOG but as efforts have expanded to include Prison Consulting, among other things, the website was in dire need of an update.
You can now email inquiries for interviews, educational book donations or Prison Consulting services directly from the site.
May still proves to be a challenging month inside Camps. While Attorney Barr’s April memo directing early release/home confinement for those that met the outlined parameters is being implemented, the progress has been very slow, leading to much frustration. Compounding this frustration is fear of contracting COVID which is spreading and has claimed many lives already.
As many are still on limited movement The White Collar Club Handbook has ramped up individual book donations as many Prison Book Programs are still closed due to state quarantine rules. For those Book Programs still accepting books, shipments are being made.
In addition to multiple weekly packages of magazines being sent to Camps across the USA, the following individual book donations have been made this month:
5/5/2020 Sent three new special request books to a woman at FCI Greenville Camp who has been issued early release, based upon Attorney Barr’s new guidelines, and needs to update her resume to be prepared for her job search when she returns home. In addition to sending books to assist her, The White Collar Club Handbook has also been researching potential employment opportunities and sending information to her to prepare cover letters.
5/16/2020 Sent 15 new books from their Amazon Wish List to Prison Book Program in Quincy, MA.
“Prison Book Program is a grassroots organization that exists for one purpose—to send free books to prisoners. We’ve been doing it since 1972.
Books are crucial to the political, spiritual, and educational development of all people. Most prisons do not allow family and friends to send books into prisons. They must come from a bookstore, publisher, online retailer or a program like ours. We serve over 10,000 prisoners each year.” – prisonbookprogram.org
5/18/2020 Assisting a WCC, currently at Camp, with a business plan for a business she plans on opening when she is released in a few months. Sending her materials for review as well as discussing potential avenues for improving ROI.
5/21/2020 Sent two new special request books to a woman at FMC Lexington Camp. While some restrictions have been lifted at Camps, people still are spending the majority of their time indoors, hence the need for more reading materials/entertainment.
“Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.” – John Quincy Adams
