Education is an oxymoron at Club Fed. The out dated facilities and materials make University of Phoenix look like Harvard.
Most WCCs have the advantage of a higher education but that doesn’t mean your fellow Campers are operating at the same intellectual level.
Those that do not have a GED will be required to enroll and attend classes while they are at Club Fed. This is a wonderful opportunity for those less fortunate to complete their degrees without any distractions. They literally have all day to study.
Should you wish to, you can volunteer to teach. One should note that this is a thankless job as not all students are enthusiastic about being mandated to take GED classes.
Students range in age, background and ability. You might be surprised to see that a 56 year old can not pass a rudimentary math exam.
That being said, Uncle Sam is providing free educational opportunities to those that want to better themselves and there are those that have, for whatever reason, been unable to complete their studies and want to use their sabbatical wisely. It is for these individuals that you will gain the most satisfaction in your tutorial efforts.
Classes are diverse so you will be able to reflect back as you engage in algebraic variables and instruct in topics as diverse as “How to Balance a Check Book.”
Muster every ounce of patience in your being and take this opportunity to give back. The rewards will be felt all around. The joy in seeing a student receive their GED under your tutelage will be better than any sports trophy on your mantle. Yes, even better than placing first in the Port Huron to Mackinac race!
