RSVP Not Necessary…Regrets Only

WCC’s are accustomed to elaborate celebratory events, whether it be your annual birthday bash in the Bahamas, Thanksgiving with the entire extended family at the ski lodge or Christmas morning opening presents while sipping peppermint cocoa next to a roaring fireplace.

Should your staycay overlap with any of your special occasions, fear not.  Your fellow camp mates are eager to organize a party.   Never one to pass up a good invite, your weeks will be busy participating in birthday dinners, farewell brunches and attending various holiday celebrations.

It all starts with the food.     Elaborate multi course meals, prepared meticulously, culminating in sweet desserts and gifts ranging from books to crocheted items.

Depending upon what Fed Mart has stocked for the week (and who you know that works in CDR), you might be indulging in a smorgasbord of lovingly prepared Spring Rolls, Chili Nachos, Chicken Fried Rice and Pepperoni Pizza followed by a dessert of Banana Bread Pudding, Oatmeal Raisin Cookies and Chocolate Lava Cake.  Did I mention all home made?!  Yes, The Food Network has made it to Club Fed (in more ways than one).

WCC Hall of Famer Martha Stewart must have been impressed with the cooking techniques she witnessed while on sabbatical.  Necessity is the mother of invention and the skill sets exhibited at Club Fed are truly worthy of Eagle Scout level praise.

Your fellow camp mates try to create a festive environment regardless of the circumstance.  This might include hand crafted decorations and cards.  If the weather is nice and an outdoor picnic has been organized you might find a bed sheet that has been stitched with whimsical motifs and used as a tablecloth.  If you are participating in a Pot Luck brunch expect people to arrive with stacks of tupperware overflowing with treats.  If there is an artist in residence they might be doing caricatures during the event or a hair salon owner might be styling or braiding hair.

Club Fed also makes a big effort to celebrate major holidays.  CDR meals are extra special (and large) and might include items not normally served.  Christmas stockings are handed out over the holidays and are normally filled with tween delectables like potato chips and chocolate bars.

Sporting events also normally accompany these special days; Volleyball and Basketball tournaments, Softball games, Bean Bag tosses, Obstacle Courses, Bingo, etc.

So, don’t lose any sleep over missing out on entertaining while you are away from home…there will be plenty of opportunities!
